Pie makes everything better!

Hey everyone!  Our son and his wonderful wife just moved here. With all the moving kids in, helping them paint, clean, unpack, etc. You get the picture...I decided it was time to do something yummy.

Just a little baking makes the kitchen smell good, and the heart happy.

I had a thought...
When you drive up to your home...
What do you want to see?
I have never been into generic, plain, boring, colorless...

I like flowers...
lots of them
bright ones,
pretty ones,
they just make my heart happy!

I've never been a person that is just happy with 1 lawn, 2 shrubs, 3 trees, with BORING WRITTEN ALL OVER IT!
And I realize not everyone can have an old bathtub in their driveway because they don't all live in the country. But everyone could plant a couple of flowers....somewhere...or even
just one.

Do flowers make your heart sing?

Spring Table and great news

Hey everyone. Well our knee deep snow melted, and some sweet spring flowers
bloomed. One thing about the spring blooms they come when they decide to come.
It was refreshing to see yellows, and purples, and pinks after all the cold white snow.

Bunnies and blooms are all in place...welcoming spring...and all the kiddos.
We were all together for a wedding this weekend.  Loved having all the kids (and their Ipads, Iphones, Ipods...etc...plug ins, mess, blankets and pillows everywhere) we laughed a great deal and told funny stories on each other.

If you missed my post on decorating and altering cans for spring and Easter see it here @
We were so blessed this week in so many areas.  Our son and his wife who have graduated with degrees in Theology(church history), etc. have recently moved here to California, near us of all things and plan to pastor nearby.

We are beside ourselves with happiness. It never occurred to us they would choose a rural community when they have had several job offers in larger cities and areas. Our middle son is living in Las Vegas and is working at a great church
heading up their missions and worship department. He is able to fly home  when we have special occasions so he is close.
Whitney Rose...
Even though our daughter is leaving the nest and getting married soon to her high school sweetheart she said they will move back to California (about 30-40 minutes away in a town near us) after she and her fiance finish college.
So our week was full and our hearts are fuller. (Grandbabies soon?) I sure hope and pray so. Yay!

Joining in with these wonderful and very fun parties!

Snow and wedding dresses

SPRING BREAK? Our littlle poopsie came home yesterday to this. She brought home summer clothes, bathing suits for the beach, and suntan lotion.  I said "where are your real shoes?"
We had a foot of snow over the weekend....
We live 30-40 minutes up the mountains from Palm Springs
but you would never know it.

I'm not allowed to show more, but we did find the wedding dress! (Thank goodness....)
We took dad and the grandma's along and it was a wonderful day....nothing like the stressful wedding shows she had us watching...in preparation. Hahaha...dad was emotional, I was too...she looked so pretty. In fact the only stress was which dress? They were all beautiful on her...
I kept seeing a toddler (in my mind) in the dress, the little girl that used to sit on my lap, and give me kisses each morning. But she has turned into this lovely young woman, and this mama is very proud.
and my precious mother in law.

Here she is with my sweet mama.  Very precious day.

Altered cans for spring and organizing

Hey everyone!  I finally did it. I have been gathering supplies to decorate some cans to use for storage-ribbons, rick rack, lace, etc. All for organizing my sewing room. It's sort of thrifty to use what you have...right?
I have cans (vegetable, soup, fruit cocktail...)that I emptied out and then altered/decorated.

Shutters + Pallet=Patio shelving DIY

Hey everyone! We had such a lovely day out here I decided to work  on a project I have had in my mind for ages.  I love shutters, and I have several pallets on our farm...just
like chocolate and peanut butter go together I thought why couldn't
these two marry each other and make a little shelving for the patio.
I painted both of them...
then got out the drill, screws and hinges.   I attached the hinges first to the pallet, and then each shutter.
I matched up the doors to make sure they fit snug against one another before drilling any holes.
It is also good to mark with a pencil where you will be drilling, and use a measuring tape if needed. I tend to eyeball things, and if they look even I start drilling.
Next I wanted shelves inside this little unit, and picket fence wood pieces fit perfectly inside the pallet. I whitewashed the  picket fence pieces lightly to give a distressed look.
They couldn't have fit more perfectly.

I drilled holes and then used wood screws to hold the shelves in place.
Next I had found an old sprinkler piece I wanted to use as a handle. So again I drilled holes on the left shutter.

The shelves obviously are not deep but do hold little mason jar candle holders, terra cotta pots and other little garden items.
