Did you know that baby chicks come from the Post Office?
they sure do...the hatchery mails them to you once they are paid for and you dash
down to the PO and pick those noisy little critters up!
We had to hire some little helpers to help us with the big load!
500 of these little ones...soft...furry....cute...and noisy!
Here was our biggest helper...she knew just what to do. So suhweeeeet!
We put them in our barn....closed off part of it...from predators...(our dog and cats), put saw dust on the floor...set out feed in feeders they can reach and water in little waterers.
Oh I forgot to add...in the middle hanging from the ceiling is a large heat brooder....looks like a large circular lid...has heat underneath it
to keep them all warm at night and during the day if
the temperature dips.
They soon got the hang of the drinking and eating. The chicks are Rhode Island Red chickens that will lay brown eggs in about 4 months.
I found some cute little chick patterns for you below!
