Shabby Bookcase remake...29.00 Walmart find!

Plain, nondescript....sort of uhhhhgly...a place to hold towels....

So....without further adooooo.....I took a glue stick, sticky dots...whatever I could find and started putting shades of green, turquoise (to match new bathroom paint) SCRAPBOOK paper on the back of the bookcase...readjusting shelves appropriately. I'm sure I'm not the first one to do this, and I'm sure I will do more now that I have gotten started.

Once I finished...that took about 45 minutes to do the paper on all the shelves...I added some towels. I bought about 10 new towels at Target. They were on sale for 3.00 a piece. And I was informed by a couple of college students they were bringing several kids from their music missions team home (oh about 15!) My first thought was I don't have enough towels for all those kids or pillows. I have tons of blankets and floor space though!

Here it is without towels....

Joining in on all the fun for Met. Monday @

This is a vintage serving piece that I keep jewelry on. I have quite a bit of turquoise jewelry from Pow Wows we have gone to with our family. If you ever have a chance to go to an Indian Pow Wow...you have GOT TO GO. They are amazing. Very very family oriented....great food...dances and performances are incredible. We have been so impressed with the ones we have been too. They really are wonderful to go to. And the jewelry is gorgeous and so inexpensive....

Some old quilts folded to match the color scheme. I couldn't believe I had this old turquoise quilt that is 30 years old. I've collected mostly reds and whites when it comes to quilts but I'm so glad I kept this one and didn't sell it. I always thought..."I will never use this color on a bed in my house." But I always kept it because I got it in the town that I got married in...so it was sentimental.

I love this sign...I got it while visiting kids in Tulsa at college. We do not have Hobby Lobby here in California, so when we visit kids....I always have a money stash to go by Hobby Lobby and get a few things. You would never find a sign or picture like this in S. California.

I am so glad you came by! Thanks for the visit. If you have an inexpensive shelf, try this and let me know...I will post pictures on my blog!

What a creative "facelift!" I have dolled up old plain shelves, but I never thought about using scrapbook paper, not being a scrapbooker myself. I keep seeing all these cool ideas for using it, though, so I think I might get a few sheets and wait for inspiration.
Thanks for sharing.

It looks great Debbie. Towels for $3.00 is a great deal too! I've used scrap book paper inside my cabinets too, but it's behind the glass, to hide the stuff inside :-)
Blessings,
Marcia

It looks fantastic. Love the colores you put together. I have been thinking about doing this on some plain white bookshelves in my craft room and even bought the paper but hadnt done it yet. It's nice to hear that it goes together so quickly!
