Watermelon, crows, stars, quilt....college fun!

Here are my 3 college kids (I can't believe I'm old enough to have all 3 in college) all happy as can be! I'm conflicted. I've spent my lifetime as a mother getting them ready for this moment. Always hoped they would go to a Christian college, find their God-given destiny on this earth and be happy. So here they are...at a great Christian college...happy as can be and I am sad as can be!

Here is my daughter's room, black and pink bedding she had to have...my adorable daughter-in-love helping us get all the dorm-cuteness in order. All I can think of is I'm the one that has to go home! I mentioned I'm being a big baby! Yes I am. Of course I'm not showing it....but I'm being a baby just the same. They think life is great....
So onward and upward!
I think if I work on 200 projects when I get home maybe I will be ok...

This was so much fun to make. I just wanted a small wall quilt with a watermelon, a crow, a few stars....so I used patterns I had, mixed them up till I got the look I wanted. Then I appliqued everything to the background fabric, and finished it off with some machine quilting.

Here is the quilt before I added buttons. I added black buttons to the watermelon for seeds and then buttons in the middle of all the stars.

Next we headed, me and the puppy Coco Chanel onto the porch for some pictures. The puppy is my assistant in all outdoor pictures. She's a big help..NOT! Hahaha. She definitely stirs things up! While we (the puppy and I) were getting the little quilt set up, lo and behold, trouble walked by!
Uh oh! Coco could not help herself, she had to sniff and get closer, which only resulted in a tumultuous running about, hissing, clawing, and a great deal of fussing between kitties and puppy!

Finally after things settled down we got on with out photo shoot! Big smile!

Little kitty just had to tease the puppy a little more by being in the picture. Oh my! Life on the farm!
Later we chased chickens too!

Saying a prayer for your newly empty nest. I almost cried reading that part. Geez, I thought it was going to be hard letting them go into Kindergarten. I'm not looking forward to those days to come. Bless yer heart!!

Your little quilt that you just "whipped together", is darling! I'm fascinated by the applique technique & machine quilting. Looks real good!!

Awww! My daughter will be a senior next year and I am already dreading her going away. She wanted to go to a great Christian college, but they don't have a program in her major. : (

I know how hard it is for mom when the kiddos leave for school. I am a mom of 4, all close in age and all kind of dispersed at the same time. So sad, was I. Then...like you, I started 200 some projects and life went on, the kids came back off and on and it got to be a joke that I was watching my clock anxious for them to take off again. Of course that wasn't true but the humor helped with the empty loss I felt. However, there was light at the end of the tunnel, now there are grandbabies and oh my, NO time for myself. It is Wonderful! God has so truly blessed us.

I can't even imagine what you must be going through with all your "babies" off to college. I love your daughter's room. I am partial to those colors since Lexi's room is in zebra and hot pink.

Cute, CUTE quilt!! Love it! I also LOVE seeing the pictures of Coco Chanel and the kittens. So sweet. I just love little animals!

I haven't gotten that far yet with my kids, but I do feel for you! My little one is starting kindergarten soon and will only be there for 2 1/2 hrs each day.

I LOVE your quilt! Fantastic work on that!

Hi, Debbie,
I love your wall hanging. I have the greatest admiration for anyone who can sew. My mother sewed all the time, made everything my sister and I wore. I didn't inherit the skill. I have a hard time getting a button back on. I know you miss your children. I felt the same way when my last little chick left my nest. You have the right idea by staying busy. Hope you have a good rest of the week. Vicki

I love your quilt! Very cute and simple :)

I'm sure you'll settle in and figure out what to do in this new step in your life. I know it's probably different but I spent a few years worrying about when Aften went to Kindergarten..how my life would change with both kids in school, after ten years of being a SAHM and before I knew it the year was over. It wasn't as horrible as I thought and with all parts of life, there are good and bad things. Keep looking ahead and enjoy the good parts!

Have a great night!
