More bridal shower!!

I saw the most amazing vase filled with candy at a florist shop, filled to the top. I loved the idea, but as you can tell the kids got into this before
I could take the shot. Also I made a name tag for my future daughter in law. She is such a sweetie.
Here is a picture with the balloons. It even looked prettier in person. There is one of the little ones who is going to be a flower girl. She is adorable and feisty!
This strawberry layered dessert is a family favorite. I will post the recipe soon. Yum. Red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing. Oh my! It was all so good. You know the Bible says you can eat dessert? Let everything that is within me bless His Holy name(Psalm 103:1) I just know that that is what that scripture must mean.(Big smile)

Pink and Black Bridal Shower

Here are a few pictures of the Bridal shower we did for my son and his fiance. He wasn't supposed to be there but he was! Haha it was fun watching him while she opened presents.

Everything really turned out lovely. I was so happy with the way things

turned out. I had some amazing people help me. (Mary Beth thank you).
I made the center pieces out of mostly polka dot fabric in blacks and pink. Everything else pretty much matched that color scheme. Then we bought tons of black and pink helium balloons. It turned out so good. Yippee. The centerpieces were dark pink flowers in containers wrapped in black and white checked fabric. My husband cooked (he's amazing) and my two sons helped serve the food. I will post more pic's.

Here is a picture of my son and his lovely fiance! They are at college and trying to get through with finals. Just the thought of a final makes me shudder!

Attack Chicken?

Did I mention my house is protected by chickens? We have many hundred chickens, our daughter collects the eggs and we pack them and sell them. I saw this cute sign and had to have it! My kids think it is ridiculous! But mama has got to be happy. I do however have a rooster and chicken collection in the house. The ones outside in the barn like to eat, drink and peck at each other. We trim their beaks so they won't go crazy pecking each other, but it is a natural trait for them to peck! They certainly know the meaning of the pecking order. You've gotta love those fresh eggs though!

Worketh willingly!!!

Hi, I am still working on flower girl dresses, but also in the mood to sew and create. I love to sew and decided this must be a God given desire to create and make things. I literally lay in bed sometimes dreaming of things to sew. Sometimes quilts, little dresses for my nieces, pillows, tablecloths. I am always working on something, even if it is just in my mind. I love fabrics and pondering all the possibilities! God has given some the gift of writing books, playing football, or singing. I however have the gift of needing to sew, buy more fabric and create beautiful fabric items. Proverbs 31:13 says she seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands. That's me, I sew willingly!!
ROSETTE TUTORIAL

Once you start you won't be able to stop making these adorable rosettes!
You take a strip of fabric or pattern piece that is tapered on both ends, and fold in half, pinning along the way. Sew with a loose gathering stitch. You will pull threads after this to
gather the fabric.
Once you have pinned and sewn the fabric, it is so easy from here on out.
I was a little excited, after I did the chores outside, pigeons, dogs, fed and watered, I came in to sew. I did however notice several pigeon feathers near the barn, and a very guilty looking labrador! If you don't feed them on time in the morning they get busy themselves looking for what I refer to as breakfast snacks. I usually notice the feathers or the broken eggs from the chickens pen. How they get into those eggs with all the doors closed is beyond me! Anyhow I headed inside to sew. Yippeee!

Here is a short tutorial on making these incredibly easy rosettes. They can be made out of any fabric, sew or glue a pin on the back of them and they would make great accents for a purse, hair accessory, jacket, etc.

After the fabric is gathered you start at one end of the fabric and begin to roll it very tightly. Once it is completely rolled up it forms the flower itself. It is so easy and amazing how quickly it looks like a beautiful fabric flower.

Once the fabric is gathered, you sew through the base of it to tack it with little sticthes. This will hold the flower together. I also added a little fabric glue just to be on the safe side.

The last thing to do after you have stitched it tight is to add a little fray check to keep any loose threads from unravelling.
Voila! You are ready to do something with your pretty little rosette. I have to make about 40 of these for the two little flower girl dresses. I am about half done.
Thank you for looking at my first tutorial. Debbie

Sewing flower girl dresses...

Today I am working on flower girl dresses for my son's wedding in Texas later in June this summer. My two adorable nieces are going to be in the wedding. I love sewing and am trying to do the best possible job. Normally I am a quick sewing mama, but I am taking my time! Just to be on the safe side. It would be awful to make a mistake and have to tear out seams on satin or sparkly fabric!! I am just praying I don't make any noticeable mistakes on the dresses. Haha. They do look beautiful already. Next I will post a tutorial on making fabric rosettes out of satin. I have to make 40 of these for the dresses! Oh my.

Another God blessed day!!

Wow it does help living in Southern California when the weather is nice. Or at least before it hits the 100's. Thank God for the sunshine. I love to sit on the front porch with my coffee and ponder life. Well at least for a couple of minutes before we start chasing sheep that have gotten out! The sheep love to get out of their fenced in area right before I'm heading off to church or work. It's never when your just sitting around lollygagging around. Last night we loaded our sheep on a horse trailer to move them to pasture. Of course they all get on-----except for one. My husband didn't quite feel like she should do the chasing, or the gasping for air as the one lamb runs right past your grasp. He felt like he should stand by the gate. The gate! So he can merely stand there and open it when the little lamb is exhausted and ready to get in the trailer to be with its mother. I'm exhausted too, I want my mother....I have often wondered why God said we are like sheep. I told God they have got to be the DUMBEST animals. I am sure God nodded when I was muttering to him my thoughts!
I decided to make my porch a little prettier since I will be there a little more often with the weather is so nice. Who knows maybe I'll even get a squirt gun and squirt the sheep as they run through my flower garden before church on Sunday!

85* DEGREES OUTSIDE!!

Wow it is beautiful outside, a great day for being in the sunshine. I am thinking about my front porch and how it needs to look different. Maybe something pretty to set on a chair, a throw maybe, matching flowers and a rooster statue! I need to get to work.

More chickens...

Here are a few more chickens in my house, mostly the kitchen. What is funny

is we have large baskets

full of real eggs in the house

that we wash before they

are put in cartons. There is nothing like a real

fresh egg. They taste soooooo good! But nothing

smells as bad as a rotten egg. Oh my, I have

seen a few of those in our egg ranch days.

Just a few roosters loose in my kitchen. I started collecting chickens and roosters years ago. I prefer the ceramic and resin kind to the ones outside in our barn that eat so much feed every month. We do get alot of eggs and sell them to a couple of restaurants. My teenage daughter washes them after she collects them. Then we carton them, box them and get them ready to go. My husband got me these two roosters on the hoosier for mother's day one year. I just love them. Just remember the Rooster's crow alot, but the hen delivers the goods!!!

You are on God's mind...

I am currently working on writing a song that has to do with God thinking about us. Psalm 139, the whole chapter says wherever I go, if I ride the wings of the morning even there the Lord is with me. I like that. Whether my day is difficult or full of laundry!!! God is with me, helping me along. Wow. Today is my daughter's 17th birthday. She is beautiful on the inside and on the outside. I am very fortunate to have this wonderful girl as my daughter. Thank you God!

Stress sewing!

I spent the day yesterday working on little flower girl dresses for my son's wedding in June. They are coming along nicely. I will try to post pictures when they become more like dresses and less like pattern pieces! It is very cold in California, we have been having freezing temperatures at night and then it warms up gradually during the day, still chilly.

April 6, 2008

Today we had a music practice after church and worked on quite a bit of new music that we will be doing at church. Tomorrow I hope to start sewing and finishing up some quilt tops! Yippeee.

We have one puppy left!

We have labs, three to be exact and one little puppy left. He is so sweet, I am sad to see him go. This weekend he will find a wonderful home with a family who needs him. The rest of the weekend will be filled with soccer games, church and possibly sewing flower girl dresses for a wedding coming up.
