SEWING -an EMBARASSING MOMENT

MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME TO SEW IN 1st GRADE. Since then I have been fortunate to have a real love for sewing and quilting. My therapy.

IN Junior High I took Home Ec. to learn the basics of sewing...my mother made me take it.

EMBARASSING MOMENT

At one point I had sewn through the skirt I was making onto the skirt I was wearing...

held it up for my teacher to see...and

proceeded to show the entire class my underpanties!

I have endured pain while sewing...

I have sewn through my fingers countless times because I was not paying attention.

One time I did have to go to the doctor to have a sewing machine needle removed from my finger!

Can you say ouch? But all in all...I'm a lover of pretty fabrics, vintage fabrics, pink fabrics...etc.

Mom always said to sew what you love...try new things...if it makes you happy that is a good thing!

I have a love relationship with pink fabrics, and table runners. My table always has one on it. I love to walk in the dining room and see my table dressed up in a pretty outfit....tablecloth, tablerunner, centerpiece, sometimes flowers....

BUT I WANT TO SEE 'PRETTY' WHEN I WALK INTO MY DINING ROOM.

Everything is in my Etsy...no more sewing through fingers...only fabric!

Pink Vintage Toy OVEN-mini cookies and cupcakes

Hey everyone! Since Valentine's day is a couple of weeks away, I decided to do a little baking. It seemed fitting to make some 'mini' chocolate chip cookies (great with coffee!) and some mini cupcakes!

I pulled out my itty bitty red polka dot apron, and vintage toy oven and started baking!

I store cupcake sprinkles in the little refrigerator next to the toy stove.

Below is another one of my little ovens, probably my favorite. It's red!

Below I made some little cake boxes for my mini cupcakes. YOu can download the pattern at the link below. I made several. They are easy and go together easily. Pick out your favorite scrapbook paper and glue away ( I used a glue gun-with bowl of cold water nearby...since I always BURN MYSELF)!!!

Valentine Altered Can tutorial -Can I be your Valentine?

Hey everyone! What a wonderful day here in California. I don't want to brag but it was 77 here today, a little overcast but warm...and breezy(ok windy!).

Anyhow I have been busy altering some soup cans to hold Valentine candy for some sweet little ones that come to visit me.

I washed and dried a couple of soup cans.

Layed them down on paper, scrapbook paper from Joann's.

After I made a small mark on the paper I used one of my quilting rulers to draw a line for myself. I cut it on the line with scissors.

Next I took a nail and made a hole on each side of the can to make a wire handle.

Next I rolled the paper around the can and glued it closed using a glue gun. I always make sure I have a small bowl of water nearby...so that when I DO HOT GLUE MYSELF WHICH ALWAYS HAPPENS...I can dip my fingers in the water...stopping the burning sensation!

After the paper was glued on the can I used my seam ripper to puncture through the paper so that I knew where to insert the wire for the handle.

I glued trims, crepe paper, pom pom fringe....

Added bows, rosettes, doilies, till I got the look I wanted. I basically pulled out all the pink goodness I could find in my craft room and started gluing it on the can!

On my computer I printed out the phrase

'Can' I be your Valentine?

since I was using a soup can or other cans...I thought the phrase was appropriate!

I stuffed the bottom of the inside of the can with paper towels, added a little basket filler and then stuffed the can with candy.

The second one was similar, but with aqua, creams and white.

The can below you can finally see the little handle. I twisted wire around a pencil to give it the look it has, and then bent the edges inside the can to hold it firm.

Hope you feel inspired to create something fun for Valentine's day. I usually give little gifts to our little nieces and nephews just for fun and because I enjoy watching their faces light up....who doesn't like a little candy on Valentine's day?

Heart Brownies and Pink Melmac for Valentine's day

Hey everyone! What beautiful rain and cloudy skies we are having...hahaha....nothing like being positive about gray skies. The table is set with pink Melmac, mostly found off of Etsy.com. Love it.

I made brownies and used a heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out heart shaped brownies....

Hey everyone! Those of you that have followed me know that I have been cleaning and organizing and Purging (rough word) my home. Purging is like dieting....it was easy eating all those goodies (shopping for things and accumulating) but rough getting rid of the pounds (the accumulated stuff!).

So I've taken a break and have done a bit of Valentine Decorating.

I painted an old frame black, covered the back of the frame...the inset with strips of paper and then spelled 'LOVE'. Next I added paper filler in my glass jars.

Last year I bought at least $25.00 worth of Valentine candy and it looked adorable...but then it disappeared as people came and went. I went to take a picture and the adorable Valentine candy had disappeared and no one seemed to know what had HAPPENED! Confusion...'candy? what candy?'

So this year...paper filler!

This week I set the table with pink Melmac I found on Etsy...when no one was looking...I bought some here and there...love it! It is so VINTAGE LOOKING.

I googled "free printables, Vintage Valentines" and found some adorable vintage Valentine postcards. Printed this one off and put it in an old vintage frame I spray painted red.

Below is a pillow I just added to my Etsy! Soft and sweet and perfect for Valentine's day.

Love script-Valentine DIY Picture

I have been busy! It has been slow hard work, but I have been cleaning out closets, drawers, cabinets, shelves...you name it. As I said before in an earlier post, watching The Hoarder's show sent chills down my spine. Trash bags have been loaded up and removed from the house...and I'm still going strong. You know I had a thought....on the Hoarder show they showed a mess every where in every room, closet, garage and it was awful. But this terrible thought hit me...what if you are a clean hoarder? Yikes....no mess...but too much stuff in every room, closet, and garage or shed. Wow. What do you think?

To take my mind off of inward turmoil...I'm laughing but maybe crying...I did a Valentine craft on God's love. My father who is almost 90 memorized over 7000 scriptures in his lifetime and yes he has a photographic memory! He has a wonderful memory when it comes to funny jokes as well.

There are tons of scriptures in the Bible on love and I liked the idea of listing them one by one with a pretty font, printing them out on colored paper and doing something for Valentine's day with them.

The scriptures are below if you want to copy and paste them onto a word file of your own. I did try to load the actual document so you could click and save but blogger kept saying error! Big frown!

I found the font on Picnik.com.

Then I enlarged the letters for love...cut them out and inked the edges before gluing them on top of the scriptures.

Pottery Barn Style Bulletin Board

Reposting this from 2009. I have had questions about this and just decided to post it again.

For a little pink...and black project let's visit my daughter's room!

In her room we put together a bulletin board similar to the one in the Kids Pottery Barn Catalog! The individual tiles/squares were 29.99 a piece in the Pottery Barn catalog.... We took scrapbook paper and the cardboard on the back of scrapbook paper tablets and made our own version for less than 10.00.

So... we used 9 pieces of scrapbook paper, and 9 squares of cardboard (from the back of the scrapbook tablets) for stability. We used tacks to hold the corners down.

It is difficult to tell but my daughter put black rhinestone stickers on top of the tacks to dress it up a little better.

She got these pink Christmas lights and draped it around the bulletin board..I like it better without the lights but.....

Last I bought wood trim and a mitre box from Home Depot with a hand saw.

I'm not allowed by hubby to use an electric saw because I'm a pianist and he says he doesn't want to take any serious chances with my hands!

It was pretty easy and the hand saw took all of ten minutes to cut/mitre the four pieces... trimmed the corners to fit. Painted the wood black and used finishing nails to tack it to the wall. It is not a perfect fit...but she was happy with the finished product and that made me happy!

Hoarder Panic!

Hey everyone! Wow what a week we have had with our little poopsie getting engaged...lots of immediate stress and panic.... what dress? where do we marry? caterer?

Below is a pic of her at Christmas with her fiance, and my wonderful hubby's parents.

I'm worn out...but the worst of the worst is this awful show she insisted I watch!

She said "mom you have got to see this, come sit by me." And then she sat on my lap....20 years old sitting on my lap....making me watch this show...

Have you seen Hoarders? Oh it is awful...just awful.

She made my husband and I watch several not just one...of the shows.

It really got to me and I will never be the same.

I have been like a nut on a cleaning rampage.

Because I felt like some of my closets and corners were a little too cluttered!

It made me tear into my house like never before and clean, purge, throw away and look at closets in a different light.

In fact I told myself I can't blog until I'm done or within a close distance.

But here I am anyway...hahaha...I needed a break.

So I googled organizing...bookshelves, home office, closets, bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, you name it...I needed some therapy!

I have two pantrys, one small for baking, cereal, everyday things and a bigger one that houses cans, large cooking equipment since we cater and cook quite a bit.
The pantry below is my smaller pantry and I use Tupperware products mostly. These are incredible, they cost more but these have lasted 20 years and have never fallen apart or lids broken, etc.

This was what it looked like before I started. When I'm done I'm challenging myself to be able to show closets, kitchen cupboards, etc. I'm trying to motivate myself....and believe me after watching those

shows...I'm in this till I'm done!

I loved this tool box, from French Larkspur, I like the farmhouse feel and yet it organizes bits and pieces of things!

From papers and files, to all of this....I'm determined!

Organize-Home Planner-free printables, file folders....

I don't enjoy filing...I won't say HATE....but...

I decided to cover some file folders with scrap paper...just used a glue stick, scissors and covered several of them.

I figure if you have to look at them at least they could look pretty!

I really want our home to flow, be peaceful and be able to find things when I need them...especially papers. Since I'm the "looker" who looks for things that have somehow disappeared...

My aim and goal is to have things look orderly, organized, and labeled...so that when I look....I can find!

Love this little painted bookshelf, lined with scrapbook paper in the back. Buckets hold sports gear, mittens, hats, things for the outdoor. I would love this right by our back door.

We actually have nest boxes in the barn for the chickens to lay eggs that look like the cubby holder below....hmmmm....

Below is a printable 2012 calendar, small but easy to locate an important date! Notice February has leap year this year...I was born on leap year, and reminded my husband that it was no excuse to forget my birthday just because it wasn't on the other calendars!

Below is a site with dozens of free printables that you put in your home planner, I love these. Once you save them in your computer you can print out as many copies as you need. They are wonderful for organizing your kids, schedules, bills, home management...etc.

Organizing ideas and Free Printables-vintage and cute

I don't know about you but January is always a month where I clean, purge, throw away, get rid of CLUTTER! I put away all Christmas things and then I start cleaning. It sort of comes over me like labor pains. I can't seem to stop it and I actually want to CLEAN!

I read in a magazine years ago...if you devote 30 minutes a day to an unfavorite task (use a timer by all means) that at the end of the week you will have devoted 3 1/2 hours to it. Perhaps completing the task...filing, closet cleaning, drawer cleaning, etc. I can't handle working on filing for 3 hours in one day but I can manage 15-30 minute intervals. Pictures like the one below motivate me to declutter!

One great idea we always used was a family calendar in a binder. I kept all three kids' sports and music, school calendars in it. Also kept directions to soccer games, phone numbers of coaches, teachers, team parents, the medical center we used for x-rays, etc. It was priceless for going back to when we couldn't remember a name or school that a football game was played at.

BASIC SAVING, PRINTING AND USING INFO...

If you will go to her site...Cathe-look at all her amazing FREE LABELS...hover your mouse over the labels and click on them to save them...

make a file folder in your picture file on your computer where you save picture files....

that way when you want to print out a picture file or free printable...it shows you the picture instead of the code...

which is what happens when you save a picture to a word document file!

I usually print these labels out on cardstock and decoupage them onto a canister or jar, or you can print them off onto a page label that fits into your printer, then cut, peel and attach. I've decorated shelves, baskets, etc. with these labels.

I printed out vintage labels and decoupaged them onto papier mache round boxes that I had painted...I love the look of enamelware (red and white) and wanted a farmhouse look.

You can find the papier mache boxes at Michael's, Joann's, and Hobby Lobby. They come in all sizes, and are great for storing all kinds of things!

I have more organizing ideas that I will be sharing in the coming days!

White Christmas-scripture

side note: I went to Picnik.com, uploaded pictures of our property when it snowed, and used their basic edits to lighten etc... it is free. Then you can add text to your pictures, they have several fonts to choose from. This is the mountain that we look at from our living room window. I added the scripture and then saved it to my picture file.

Vintage-Red and White Tour-free vintage images

Salt dough candy...hubby tried to sneak this into his mouth...heard him choking and fussing in kitchen....I secretly hid and giggled....

Do you ever set your table and it turns out completely different than what you had intended?

Well I first set this table with a red checked tablecloth and it looked awful...I loved the dishes and everything else....then inspiration hit...black.

I have loved looking at tablescapes on other blogs over the last couple of years since Tablescaping became en vogue. So many amazing blogs with amazing ideas. So black it became.

Black and white napkins, with a black lantern (spray painted of course...the glass had been broken out of it and it was on sale for $4.00 at HOme goods)...and black handled silverware.

Home tour-White and Red Christmas

Welcome to our winter...farm...wonderland! Hahaha....all our farm animals that are outside(mostly sheep) are dusted with snow. Yes they can go inside the barn when they want to. We set up our outside for a meal...but it ended up being too cold to venture away from the fire inside...the cozy fire inside!

I used our grand piano as a table.... backdrop for my Nativity scene. There are several "heavenly hosts" looking down on baby Jesus. I also added my cross stitched pictures as part of the back drop. There are three pictures and they took me a couple of years to finish. It was alot of stitching!

This year it just seemed appropriate to decorate with vintage Christmas music. You will see it everywhere in our home. And it is fitting for this wonderful CHRISTmas season.

Pink and Black Christmas Decor

Hey everyone...the countdown is on for CHRISTmas. Our daughter will be home tonite and is NEWLY ENGAGED! We are so tickled for her. She is going to marry her high school sweetheart~YAY!

He is a jewel and we are thrilled for both of them!

We decorated her room in un-farmhouse colors!

Lots of pink, silver and black for her. (As soon as she gets married-I'm painting the room...)

said her son wasn't even out of the driveway when she had completely REDONE HIS ROOM!

A couple of years ago we made this pottery barn inspired bulletin board using scrapbook paper-9 pieces and then trimmed it with wood trim painted black. Love it (will be sad to see it go-in a few months-when I redecorate her room-which we painted pink in high school!)

Hello again! Wanted to share one of my prize possessions. I found this Vintage White Christmas music in an antique store for about $5.00 and scooped it up. I just love it! So I made a little vignette with it in mind. I hung it from mini clothespins inside an old white frame. Surrounded it with Angels dressed in red and white fur!

Below I spray painted some wood pieces that I got from Michael's...sprayed them silver and then just glued on the little gingerbread wood pieces also from Michaels. Glued on a ribbon for hanging on my kitchen tree.

Fake gingerbread cinnamon rolls in the glass jar. Made salt dough and added tons of cinnamon and ginger. Rolled out mini cinnamon rolls and baked for hours....The icing is 1/2glue mixed with 1/2 white paint and then drizzled on.

I painted these gingerbread men (wood pieces from Michaels) and then glued them to an old cookie sheet!

I printed little recipe cards and made the font tiny on my computer, added glitter and ribbon for hanging it as an ornament!

**Embellished this frame with little gingerbread men....I cut out gingerbread men from brown felt, covered it with white glue, sprinkled it with ginger and cinnamon and slow baked them while I baked the salt dough on low. They make great embellishments for frames, cards and scrapbooking. They dry stiff. This frame is in my Etsy shop too.

White glistening Decor- Christmas Tour

It has been snowing and snowing here! With the loveliness of all the white, I decided to do a winter wonderland tablescape! White and sparkly, snow glistening...

We had about 3 inches today...we will see if it is still here tomorrow. Talked to my kids today...the oldest one broke the glass on his IPhone, daughter was snowboarding in Colorado with 10 other college buddies having fun, and the middle one called and asked how to cook a steak! Hahaha...well I'm glad they all called...usually they need something and that is how life goes!

Farmhouse Christmas-Outdoor decor

Welcome to our Farmhouse in S. California!

We live in the mountains, on 3 acres, we

have several hundred chickens and a small herd

of sheep.

Woodland tablescape...I spray painted the lime green placemats brown so they would fit in better!

We actually have a pine tree on our property since we live in the mountains, so I love to cut some greenery and use it with my other (fake) Christmas trees.

The gal at my local nursery asked me if I wanted an old junky door? Below, the one with peeling paint...yes...I did a happy dance out to the car!

This is my plant table, spray painted the nesting boxes, the table is a sofa table with a door over it. And the table we eat on is an outdoor fold up table with a tablecloth on it. Everything has been transformed with paint or fabric.

Red and White MIniature Christmas Kitchen

Hey everyone! I don't know about you but I love and adore miniatures. At Christmas time it is easy to put them all together, and display them for the Holidays. This year I decorated my kitchen tree with candy canes, miniature ovens, gingerbread cookies, little pies, and lots of candy!

Hubby gave this Hoosier to me for Christmas one year. I store dishes in it, but I love it to display Holiday and Farm items on during the year.

I love vintage toy stoves, scales, and red and white enamelware pots and pans.

Miniature pumpkin pie baking in this sweet little red toy oven.

I'm not sure why...but I swoon when I see miniature kitchen utensils!

Time to bake some little cookies in my red oven....see you soon.

Who needs sleep during Christmas decorating? I mean season...

Christmas quilts, stitcheries, crafts and music

I was so blessed to have a grandmother who made quilts,

and my other grandmother was a song/hymn writer. I was fortunate to inherit both gifts. They are gifts. My mother loved to sew but didn't have any desire to quilt. I am nuts over quilting and dream up patterns in my head most nights.

This hand sewn quilt was made by my mother's mother. All hand appliqued.

My other grandmother was a song leader in the early 1900's and played the piano at church starting at 13. I also started playing at 13 in church and then leading worship for services by 16. I have a difficult time turning the music off (in my head) at night.

All this to say...ahead of time...I am sending some songs in to a publishing company for the first time in my life (I'm 51) and am ecstatic at finally having the nerve to do this. I've written quite a bit of music, and we actually sing it at church...but I've never had the nerve to send it anywhere...my kids have said-with a deep thought-"Why not?" Hahahha...good answer!

Love quilts with red and white in them, old, new, vintage, worn, frayed...I love them!

At 51 I'm a little worn and frayed! Hahahha

Santa stitchery-Leisure arts

Can't remember where the next couple patterns were from...I do know this Santa is by Carole Emmer...she is a wonderful cross stitch designer. I love the faces on the Santas she creates...

Below is a little once inch square-each design is in an inch...I made this one up myself.

And below is not a stitchery but salt dough holly leaves, covered with Martha Stewart glitter, and finished off with a red button on burlap, wrapped around a portion of toilet paper cardboard! Hahaha...when you craft you will resort to anything!

Silver and Vintage Reindeer-Decor and free images

Decoupaged French country boxes-Tutorial, free labels

I have to say first of all I feel so blessed and grateful for our family being together this last week. Each day, week, month is a gift. I'm appreciative of our time together. Seeing my kids and being with them has been awesome.

I've been doing several projects, and one of my favorite things to do is decoupage. I bought some papier mache boxes at our new California Hobby Lobby...first one in S. California!!!!

So happy about this. Next I bought this scrapbook paper with French country themes because it has my colors I like to decorate with.

I painted the edges of the boxes white. You could also paint the edges black depending on what color paper you are using.

I think it is easier to measure and cut your paper before hand. But you can use a large piece of paper and trim or cut it later with a sharp craft knife as well. Next brush on your decoupage liquid and add the paper rubbing and smoothing as you go.

After I decoupaged all the boxes, I let them dry...which is pretty quick. I wanted to add labels to the front of the boxes. I found these amazing labels here

is an amazing site for free images, labels, organizing printables...I could get lost on her amazing site! And everything is incredible quality on her site.

Here's just one example of one of her amazing labels.

I always print things off on cardstock, which is easier to decoupage with.

And you can't print off black labels onto colored paper, or paper that has been distressed before hand.

I cut out the labels with scissors, and then used a hole punch for the rooster and glued the rooster on the label for the look I wanted to achieve. I didn't type anything on my labels because I didn't want to be stuck with a laundry theme, which is where these boxes have landed for now.

I'm going to do a Christmas theme next!

Make cute canning jar gift card holders-and $1,000,000 gift card

Hey everyone, thanks for coming by. I made these for my nieces a couple of years ago. We have 12 teenagers who are now in their 20's, and we give them a small Starbucks gift card.

They are small canning jars, with fake snow, a cute Santa hat in pink that you can make and then gift card of your choice. I however printed out cute little cards that said $1,000,000 on them just for giggles.

I decided to do pink, I bought pink felt, and white fur trim at Joann's I think...

Any color of felt would do...

You put a salad plate down on the felt, cut out the circle, then you cut a line from the outside circle to the inside point. Overlap the felt till it makes a hat shape. Glue together.

After it dries, glue the fur trim, sprinkle some snow on the hat.

I sprinkled fake snow inside the canning jar, put the gift card in the snow, added the lid, then added the finished Santa hat...I even cut out some little snowflakes with the scrapbook punch below out of sparkly paper and added that to the snow as well.

I chose pink font on my computer and printed out these cards on cardstock...actually I printed it out on one big piece and then cut them out afterwards.

Free Printables,free vintage images-Christmas Planners

Hey everyone, I hope your Thanksgiving was over the top good. I can hardly move....but we are taking it easy today. Half our kids went shopping at midnight...us older kids went to bed! Big smile.

One of my favorite things in the world is to get organized for the Christmas holidays.

Over the last few years I have saved several sites, links, pictures regarding Christmas Planners and organizers. This is a big post but you can reference it and go to different sites for free printables...Christmas card list, Christmas present printables...where you keep track of all of it in one place...and most of these planners are cute/adorable.

I took several blank cards and attached them to each other, glued little tabs to make sections...and then...

decorated the front with letters, ribbons, flowers, and then gave them away to relatives. These were little planners for making notes and carrying in your purse.

For myself, I used page protectors to save magazine pictures, recipes, ideas, etc. Then I also used cardstock when I printed off free printables from the various sites below I showed you.

Some of these sites are over the top cute with their designs. You have to decide how far into this you want to go. I have made a bigger planner that I can use from year to year and go back to, to see what I gave the year before.

Below is a free vintage image I printed off from google. and then embellished.

the idea here is to print off what you would really use, put it into a format that you will use. I actually use notecards in my purse for notes, and gift ideas, etc. But at home I use my bigger planner to keep track of everything and everyone!

The idea is you don't want to leave out anyone important, my brain isn't the file cabinet it used to be..hahaha...so this is a fun way to remember and keep track of all the Christmas goodness!

Thanksgiving 10 Commandments-rules to live by

These are funny guidelines and rules my husband and kids and I put together. We have family gatherings of 50 or more so we have guidelines, rules to live by that just help a family gathering go smooth. These are helpful and sometimes funny...read them with a happy heart.

1. Thou shalt be Thankful. Be grateful for what you have, give thanks for it.

2. Do not alter or goof up an already good family recipe.

3. If you can't say anything pleasant put a cranberry in your mouth.

4. Opinions are like stuffing, realize after a mouthful you are sick of it!

5. You do not need to solve all the family problems, or argue about them at a family gathering. FAMILY PROBLEMS SHOULD GO HOME WITH THE LEFTOVERS!

6. Politics and religious views are only fair game AFTER you bless the food.

7. Thou shalt Say one kind thing to each person that is there.

8. Thou shalt not kill excessive talkers-The restroom is always a great escape from the worst family talkers.

9. Thou shalt not take out more plates of food than you brought...

10.Whatever you do....Thou shalt not burn the turkey!

My class at local nursery-and a wonderful Gift!

Hey everyone, I hope your week is going well so far. We are picking kids up from the airport, visiting, cooking, doing a ton of dishes and loving all of it!

Last week I was asked to teach a craft class at our local nursery.

Just how to decorate pumpkins, and a few other things for fall!

It was freezing cold and very fun! I loaded up glue guns, glue sticks, old buttons, twine, tags, jewels,

jars, scrapbook paper and off we went into craftland!

I had typed up some harvest tags on my printer, cut them out and then we decoupaged them to jars, added buttons and fall leaves...

So many pumpkins just waiting to be decorated, we added twine, buttons, jewels, ribbons, etc. Below is a table with ideas on it, for some simple decorations.

I brought some little growing pots to decorate. These turned out adorable and I'm going to do a class with the nursery for Christmas too.

The nursery owner provided some much needed heat for us. We stood around and drank hot cider, at pumpkin bread and did our crafts. It was so much fun!

On our property this is growing on the fences surrounding the back of our property. Love it next to the galvanized chicken feeder.

And this is growing on my back patio, have no idea what it is but I love it!

We had a last gathering with our turkeys, they have been so much fun to visit with and they are very vocal...so they love to gobble when I talk to them.

My children were mortified but I made a short 1 minute Youtube video, talking to the turkeys about a chicken dinner vs. a turkey dinner-and they would gobble a response!

It is called "California Turkey Whisperer"...

it is funny, a little dumb but funny.

We have several hundred chickens that lay eggs....

the hens lay eggs...

they roll outside to the outside of the barn where they are collected.

Easy peasy...not really but we are not big enough to do conveyer belts, etc. So I saw this old junky nesting box outside the barn....I looked to the right...looked to the left...no one was around....sooooo...I snuck(ok I stole it) it to my hidden work area (the back of the house) and spray painted it. I figure if it's painted no one can identify it! Snicker, giggle, and so far so good.

Hey everyone...we are on the countdown to Thanksgiving. My hubby and I are cooking for family, a church meal, and then just turkeys for a community meal...so we will be firing up our ovens to cook

up some gobblicious food!

I touched up these photos over at Picnik...you should try it. You just upload a photo and play around with their special effects...or you can just crop a picture...add text...etc. It's fun.

I found this Faith plaque which will go up on my family wall after this week.

Wish you could see the touches of gold metallic in the tablecloth....waaaah you can't see it but it is beautiful.

Hubby came home with the white pumpkins and gourds and announced he was trying to help me with something new to post on my blog....he's been BLOGTRAINED! bUWAhhhhaahaha

OK my big confession...everything on the table but the water glasses is from Thrifting over this last year.

I always look for white dishes, especially vintage dishes and platters, fabric napkins, napkin rings, and candle holders. After awhile you put it all together and SOMETHING will match!

I love FABRIC NAPKINS and love to double them up like I did here for tablescaping! Yay! Of course my husband and kids grab a paper towel because no one really uses them...below are more white thrifted pitchers...and if they aren't white when I buy them...I spray paint them with white gloss Krylon. Love it.

One last thing, these little vintage juice glasses were a gift and they have a tiny band of gold around the rim. I love them.

Fall Applique Quilt-Outdoor Farmhouse Decor

Hey everyone! I hope your week is going well. To me every day is a gift. My mom fell pretty hard yesterday and hurt her head....we ended up at Urgent care to get stitches in her head. At 84 she is pretty resilient...I love her...and every day is a gift. We are excitedly awaiting the arrival of all our kids for Thanksgiving. Lots of cooking, laughing, noise and dirty dishes at our farmhouse.

Can't wait.

One thing I swoon over is quilts...I don't have much time for quilting but this new ragged edge applique is fun and once the quilt is washed the edges curl up like rose petals. I made this with fall colors in mind.

I find that I am not swept along with new fashion colors or trends

...because these colors make me smile when I walk by....rusted metal, worn and soft quilts to snuggle in, distressed wood that shows its wear...that is kind

of like me! Hahaha...

I enjoy life and I appreciate the gift of life...and I want to enjoy all that God has for me.

Love the colors...

The turkeys are funny, when I walk outside and talk to them they follow me around as if I was speaking their language...They love to gobble at me and I of course gobble back at them...which we both laugh and enjoy...me and the turkeys.

This bloomed on my back porch...have no idea what it is...but I am embracing the orange/coral color of it! I love orange, pumpkin, rust, coral. Those colors sing to me.

So easy Candleabra Wall Vinyl on Canvas -Tutorial

Hey everyone! I want to share the easiest project I think I've ever done and I will be doing a few of these for Christmas presents for all the teens and tweens in our family.

First I purchased a couple large painters canvases from Joann's...this was a two pack on sale for 12.99.

I made sure it was big enought for my vinyl wall art to fit on.

This is a candleabra with rhinestones included. All from Joann's. It was 14.99 I believe on sale.

Just think contact paper...where one side is sticky and the other is peel off paper.

Next at the bottom of the canvas I measured a middle mark and lightly made a mark with a pencil for a starting point for me.

Next I started peeling off the back side of the paper and rubbed it down onto the canvas. It was workable and I had to lift it off a couple times. It was not too sticky so it came up easy and wasn't stuck forever in the wrong place!

Continued to peel off the back paper and rubbing down the design as I went. Was very easy....

When I was done I wanted to age and distress the edges. So I got into my scrap book supplies and pulled out distressing ink and charcoal...

I just rubbed the edge of the canvas with the ink pad and went heavy on the corner...then after that I used the sponge dabber and rubbed charcoal over the ink....it smoothed it out and distressed it a little more.

Haha...see my daughter in the background pinned to the wall in my sewing room.

Once I was done distressing it I put on the little sticky rhinestones that came in the package. I might get some more though...I liked how they added bling to the picture!

Below is a picture of her and her dad. We spray painted the frame and added rhinestone art to the corner...it was in the scrapbook section at Michaels...and it was pink!

We made the scrap board from nine pieces of square scrapbook paper and then added wood trim around it. Saw the finished version in the Pottery Barn Teens catalog for a couple hundred dollars. Ours was about 15.00 total.

All her soccer awards and ribbons from High School. She's 20 now and much more interested in her sweetheart... So I"m sure the ribbons will eventually be taken down and packed away....awww...

Our kids' childhood went by so quickly! I'm not ready to pack any thing away just yet!

Above I found this graphic on google images "printable chandelier" and I printed it off on to photo glossy paper....matted it with scrapbook paper and added a black spray painted frame. Very inexpensive wall art.

Above was a ugly metal Christmas frame I spray painted and then decoupaged with black and pink scrapbook paper. She usually keeps her earrings and perfume here when she is home from college.

I found two of these baskets at Goodwill Thrift this week which are perfect in her room. I put some of her purses in this one at the edge of the bed.

This one holds spare pillows. See the picture in the lower right...that is me and her when she was a tiny little thing....waaaaah...I'm missing her doing this post. But all the kids will be home for Thanksgiving! Yay!

Fall Crow Wool Applique

Just a quick look at a wool felt applique pillow I am working on...just about done!

Are you working on something? I'm getting ready to start working on my Christmas stuff for my Etsy. I have a lot of cute things I've made. It is so much fun making things and then actually selling it! This is new for me and I must admit I'm loving it! Yay!
